Viewing Your Social Media Footprint

Erik Qualman, the American author of a best selling book called Socialnomics, recently said in an interview, “People often ask, what’s the cost of social media? A more important question is, what is the cost of doing nothing? The ROI of social media is your business will still exist in 5 years.”

It’s a strong line to take but, as an advisor to Facebook, Google and Starbucks amongst others as well as a highly in-demand speaker all over the world, chances are Erik’s statements are quite close to the mark.

However, people using social media as a way to meet business objectives are likely to be keen to monitor how they are doing on a more day-to-day basis – and if this costs somewhere between nothing and very little then so much the better. We know that social media has two main metrics, engagement and influence, and we want hard statistics to measure how we are doing. So, if you’ve ever wanted to get a quick overview of your online activity, Twenty Feet could be the tool for you.

Twenty Feet, the brain child of a German web agency, is a handy tool that aggregates all your stats in one place and can provide you with an overview of your activity across Twitter, Facebook, Google Analytics and bit.ly, with YouTube in the pipeline to be added shortly. The stats are simple but informative. For example, on Twitter, it gives you a weekly update on how many Retweets and interactions you are getting, and also monitors any followers you have gained or lost.

From Google Analytics, Twenty Feet will give you headline stats and a view of traffic over the last week, making any unexpected spikes easy to spot, and it also pulls in data from Facebook and bit.ly so all your stats are easily viewable in one place, reducing the need to endlessly log in and out of accounts. Even better, Twenty Feet actually send you regular notifications which summarise any activity that deviates from the norm, by keeping tabs on what the ‘normal’ range of activity is in your different accounts.

The price? Surprisingly low-cost, with one Twitter and Facebook account free forever. If you’re interested in getting a simple overview of your social media footprint, my advice would be to try it now.
